Ice cream experiment

On Friday, I listed ingredients/materials that students would be exposed to. In their science journal, I asked them to write ,in a complete sentence, what they thought we were going to do. What they did was turn  the liquid of chocolate milk into a frozen treat.

Then, if they wanted to, they got to taste their creation of ICE CREAM!!

Telling Time

Time flowers telling time to the nearest 5 minutes or to the nearest minute. I shared with the class that when I was little I had such difficulty telling time. My parents wouldn't let me get a digital watch because that was easy to tell the time with. This math skill required much practice to master.

Cauldron money potion

On Halloween students created their own special potion and chose what exactly would bubble and boil in their cauldron. The items have a coin value to them that needed to be added up to find the total value.

Science Experiments

Your little scientist may ask you for a cup and some vanilla extract. They loved this simple matter experiment!!

Thanks to Mrs. Davenport's creative thinking, all third graders visited Dr. Looney's Laboratory where they felt inside a box to see if it was a solid, liquid, or if nothing was there but a smell , then a gas.

Weather Scavenger Hunt

On Thursday, students were introduced to their new at home weather scavenger hunt to kick off our science unit. Third graders are working in teams to complete the scavenger hunt. Each student is assigned to items that they are responsible for collecting. They can be creative and make it, bring in pictures from magazines, or even neatly draw the pictures themselves. Students will be graded on effort, neatness, participation, and teamwork. In class the groups will have many opportunities to meet and discuss what they have and what they still need . This at home weather scavenger hunt is due on Thursday, October 23rd.

New additions to the bulletin board

I
Each third grade class created a fall craft for the bulletin board outside Mrs. Davenport's classoom. We created the scarecrows! So cute!!

I lead a very interesting life according to these third graders. Very creative!

Fun, Free, Book Website

Today I showed the students this website called http://www.storylineonline.net/

It is a free website that has about 25-30 books read by famous people! This type of reading can count towards their nightly goal of 20 minutes. Keep in mind that when you read to your child or your child reads to you, it counts towards the 20 minutes as well.

Have fun! Enjoy!

Scholastic News

Common Core has third graders reading informational texts 50% of time and the other 50% of the time is fiction. A fun way to incorporate informational text reading in the classroom is through the magazine Scholastic News. Students read the articles with their EEKK partners and then completed a little cause and effect activity. We topped off our reading season with a game.
