By using the glossary in our Northeast Book and in our Social Studies textbook, students looked up geographical terms and defined them. In addition, they drew a picture to match!
4EX students have published their first piece of writing!! Students have been working on researching animals, Great Bay Critters. Together with their partner they chose 5 critters to research. After researching they learned how to write Haiku Poems and had to narrow down their facts to fit the Japanese style of poetry. Then, students designed the background of their picture pages using crayon resistance water coloring. After typing the poems on our Chromebooks, students were able to start assembling their books with a cover page, about the author, 5 critter pages, and a map of Great Bay. This was such a fun and amazing project! I am so pleased with how the students worked together ! Their books came out beautifully!
We have book buddies!!! 4EX this year is book buddies with 1AC. Our first get together was this past Friday and boy was it a blast!!!! The fourth graders were engaging, reading with their buddy, complimentary , and respectful! Mrs. Collins and I look forward to a wonderful year working together with our book buddies!
Math
Next week we will begin our unit on Numbers and Operations in Base Ten. We will start off with addition and subtraction. Fourth graders are working on adding 4 digits with 4 digits. The same goes for subtraction but with subtraction they are expected to subtract across zeros as well. On Fridays, Mrs. Szeliga and I , as well as Mrs. Snyder (in for Mrs. Cote) will be working with groups of students primarily working on facts. Friday math time will be known as Fun Fact Friday! I cannot stress how important it is for students to work on math facts at home. On Thursday's that is their assigned math homework . They can use xtramath , Sumdog, or any other form of practice. The better students are at facts, the easier math will be. As math progresses, it becomes increasingly more challenging .
